We are now moving around to the bed doing repairs. Front end is finished.
There are holes on either side of the pintle that appear to be punched in the frame, not drilled. Drivers side has three, the other two. Also, holes on the bed rail top, 3 on each side. Since I don't have another truck to look at, I don't know if these are stock. If not, we'll weld em shut.

The ones on the rear belong...should be on both sides of the pintle...though I have never figured out what they are for...these I have sen on all the trucks I have looked at.
The one along the bed rail is not stock that I have seen.
Looks like someone had a cap on the truck once, they arent factory.
Mine has none on the bed rails at all.....Does have the ones beside the pintle.
Mine have the ones in the rear. From a manufacturing standpoint, it's easier to have all the hole for different products in a common part. I'm guessing those rear holes are used on the 725,724, or 726 maybe.
Holes in the rear will remain. Bed rail holes will be welded shut. We stripped the rear end this weekend so the "bumper-etes" and shackles will be sand blasted this week. Progress!
It has come up before and no one to date has an explanation for those holes in the rear...oddly symetrical but no clue as to purpose...
Those holes are a good place to mount a trailer hitch to though:

I now have a clear lense small bucket light there hooked to a reverse switch. Great place for a back up light.
We agree about the hitch. We suspect someone did that. We could see square marks and rust there which is why we have primer on the holes right now. However, we wanted to check to see if we needed to weld these holes.
