I am thinking about getting a trailer to pull my truck with. Will one with a dual 3500 lbs axles work or do I need a larger one? I know the larger ones are better and prefered, but I can't afford one. So will the #7000 GVW trailers work?

Yes. Make sure you have trailer brakes and load range "C" tires minimum. "D" would be better. Regular 15" trailer tires are usually rated better than passenger car tires of the same size. A 3500 lb axle will almost always come with 15 inch wheels. Most LT 235R75-15 tires will be close to rubbing on the inside rails, so kinda watch it if buying a set of take off tires. The passenger car tires won't hold up for more than a few hours. Been there and it sucked. Once I swapped out my four mismatched tires for a set of four matching tires with good tread from my sister-in-laws SUV. 300 miles with the 715 and only two would hold air after that.
After getting better tires, I've had no trouble.
6 or 8 lug axles and at least one spare rim/tire will get the job done. A Bulldog hitch is better than anything else I have ever come across.
83" at the inside of the fenders will allow just about anything you can drive on the trailer.
PC, I've used my 16" 7K trailer to pull M715's thousands of miles. It will work ok. My preference though is to get a 18" trailer. Easier to tie down. Also make sure you have at least 83" between the bed rails if you have them. Otherwise the tie-down points on the axles will hit. Mine doesn't have a problem with 1100's but 900's will hit the rails.
I have surge brakes on my trailer but I would recommend electric brakes. Way better performance. I second the bulldog hitch. It's easier to hook-up and disconnect better than anything but a lunette.
My trailer has 5-lug wheels. If you can find heavier though get it.
If you want me to go look at any trailers around Houston let me know. I will also be in DFW area as well and i could haul something back from there as well if you find a good deal.
Please let me know if you happen to see one. I am going to look at one day that is local. My neighbor spotted it at someones house. Might get a deal on it.
