You should if you are running points. Most of the people who are 12V and running V8's are using HEI's which don't need it.

Or...some of us are running 12 volt civilian distributors and do need it...
I just happen to have the one that came in the civvy vehicle the distributor came from....

I knew that,ha,ha. Really the reason i'm asking is that everytime we get rain the truck will not start. I've replaced everything, checked everything, and can't see anything wrong, but it won't run. It does this in snow, which is when I need it. If it does start, it runs like crap. That was the only reason I asked, I know why the resistor is there, just wanted to hear it I guess. I know someone on here changed their 24v dis over to 12v, but I haven't been able to find it. Any ideas Jon? Thanks.

It wont start when there is water around....
Is it cranking at that time?
Does it try to fire but poorly?
What engine/ignition?
Have you tried a shot of WD40 under the cap?

Well it doesn't even try to start if it's damp. It cranks fine. It runs fine when it's dry,it just will not start if it rains, or there is a lot of snow. Oh, it's the 230,with a 12v. Like I said when it's dry outside you can put a glass of wathe on the valve cover and not spill a drop. She'll do 60 with no problem, run all day at 55. I'll get it, it's just going to take time, thanks guys for your input.

I would try drying and then spraying the inside of the cap with WD40 when it doesnt want to start....sure sounds like moisture is getting in there if thats the only time it does it...
