Stock leaf spring?
Hey guys, I am ordering new leaf springs from Alcan and they need the stock length to build the new springs. I am currently in Afghanistan and cannot get that info myself so I am calling on you guys for help. I need both front and rear.
Thanks
Shaun

Ab linn has new front and rear springs. I would suggest you buy from him instead of having something made.

I can measure a set of NOS ones I have in the shop if you want...spring eye to spring eye I think is the measure you would need?
It probably would be much cheaper from AB Linn though...I would definitely check him before ordering custom.

Thanks, yeah all I need is spring eye to spring eye. I am going with alcan to get a few inches of lift while improving the ride as much as possible. I am looking at running the 42" TSL's

Do you need the size of the spring eyes themselves as well?
How bout the thickness of the stack?
No sweat, just let me know.

This is what they sent me.
Hello Shaun
Thank you for visiting our web site. At Alcan Spring we custom build our springs to fit your Jeep by using information you give us about its weight distribution, lift requirements, and how you plan to use it. The cost of the springs: $ 215.00 each Front spring and $ 240.00 each rear spring. They come with bushings and take about 2-3 weeks to design and build. I do not have much info on the different Military rigs but I think this truck is the same as a J164 and the heavier springs. Just to be sure You will need to get length a width and number of leafs.
Thanks for your help.
How much lift would I need to fit the 42" tires without doing the springover, only lift in the spring?

Amount of lift is pretty debatable, I'm running 39.5s with no lift when you should really only run 38s. That extra 3/4" gives me a rub when near full stuff on a front corner, even though I built shackles that are 1-1/2" longer than stock...roughly 3/4 lift as the rear spring point stayed stock.
Anyway, I'd go at least 3"....even then, with a softer than stock spring, you may have to extend the bump stops to keep it from rubbing under articulation.

Front spring:
Eye to eye: 41.5 inch
Thickness of spring pack at center: 2.173 inch
Main leaf thickness: .333 inch
Rest of leaves thickness: .306 inch
7 leaves
Rear spring:
Eye to eye: 50 1/4 inch
Thickness of spring pack at center: 2.817 inch
Leaf thickness varies with shortest, bottom leaf at .435 inch and the rest from .39 to .41
7 leaves
From the manuals:
Front spring:
Part number: 946630
Size: 2.5 wide, 44 long
No. Leaves: 7
Rate: 515 lb./in.
Rear spring:
Part number: 943695
Size: 2.5 wide, 52 long
No. Leaves: 7
Rate: 715 lb./in.
Give them the spring rates listed above...from what has been posted in the past, NONE of the civilian Jeep springs come close to this.
Let me now if you need more.

Thanks for the info. I just bought my truck from another member in Michigan and its just sitting in storage right now. Once I get back to the states I will post some pictures. I haven't even seen the truck yet.
