I didn't pay attention to OP being in the rust belt either (Indiana).... being from Wisconsin... I know what snow/salt can do to metal drums brakes... (along with cab corners, rockers, frames, etc)

I think humidity is the major factor in the way sitting vehicles rust away: my buddy from whom I bought my 715 went back to Missouri to recover the Studebaker he had built up in high school. 25 years in a Missouri meadow, and it was so rusted out he took it directly to a scrapyard after getting back to Wyoming. Just from sitting in a humid climate.
In contrast, I know of a '20's Fordson in a Wyoming field that will still turn over after decades of neglect.
I really don't like humidity because I really like old vehicles.
Being from Wisconsin means salt, lots of it, in the winter...adds to anything rusting for sure...
