    Default M715 model by Tamiya

Does anyone remember if Japanese model company Tamiya built a kit of the M715? If I remember sometime in the past, someone on the zone had info regarding a M715 model kit? If anyone could find out, I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to get my little boy into building models & I thought it would be cool for him to build one. Thanks.

At this time there is no major model company that makes a M715 kit. There is a 1/87 HO kit intended for use with model railroads, but it is very small, like the size of a hot wheel car. There is a specialty company that is looking at producing a 1/35 scale kit in europe. Jon should have all that info. Or if you are creative you can scratchbuild your own kit. I did one in 1/18 scale using the front half of a diecast Jeep Wagoneer and parts from a 1/18 Dodge command car and a M151 mutt.

This is the info I have on the new model to be produced:

The model will be made of industrial resin. It is very similar to plastic
and is widely used in short-run production scale models.
It will be a kit, you have to assemble and paint it. It is similar to a
plastic kit, perhaps you have already built some. Of course some skills
are needed (we are considering the posbility to sell assembled and painted
models depending on the demand, of course much more expensive as it is
    completelly handmade).
It is in 1/35 scale. This is the standard scale for military scale models.
Nowadays we are producing an Unimog 404. You can find more info here:
    www.daswerkminiatures.com
Nothing on their site about it a yet....unless I missed it.

1/35 scale? That's tiny for any automotive model. I admit I've not done many military models but for models(cars/trucks) in general it's been 1/24, with the occasional 1/25 for 30 years. Below that they just lose too much detail. Oh well.

Anything is better than nothing? Works out to about 6 1/3 inches for a non winch model M715.

The detail they have on their other models is amazing....

1/35 is the standard in military models. It is quite amazing what details can be added in 1/35 scale. Check out this modeling site to see amazing details in 1/35. http://www.armorama.com/ The folks over there are far better than I am at it but here are a couple pics of some of the 1/35 models I have recently built.

And a Humvee in 3 color Nato markings

I can't wait for a 1/35 M715 to add to my collection of vehicles and tanks.

Beast, where did you get the kits for your custom M715 & the others shown? Who made the kits? Tanks.

FYI, those Unimog models are about $100 US. So be careful with that glue, Eugene.

Like I said in the earlier post the 715 was scratch built out of several 1/18 scale vehicles. The diecast Wagoneer was made buy a company called Auto Art, and the command car and M151 were from 21st Centery Toys. All can be found on ebay if you look. The 21st stuff used to be carried at Toys-R-Us but is now only at Walmart. The command car can still be found at some Walmarts but the M151 is long out of production and was part of their Vietnam line from 2000-2001. The rest of my pics on the 715 model can be seen here http://www.davidallenracing.com/M715model.htm I built it so both doors and the hood open, the windshield fold down, removable soft top, and frame, and folding troop seat that are removable also. The only real feature I could not get to work out right was the tailgate hindges. Because of the funky design on the real 715 it was to hard to replicate in that scale in working order.

The deuce in 1/35 scale is from a company called AFV Club, and can be found at most good hobby stores. The Humvee is from Tamiya. Once I finish AFV Clubs M38a1 Jeep, I'll have every "jeep" the Army used from the MB to the Humvee in my collection.
