Default Custom Rims and Size Recommendations

    Fellow Zoners,

I have a found a great, local welding shop who does custom rims, specifically for Jeeps. He has about $50k of welding / plasma equipment installed in a weather tight sea container trailer at his shop. He has quoted me $350.00 (plus the cost of four donor rims) for the job.

Could you folks recomend a good donor rim (Jeep, GM, etc.) and size (16" or 16.5")?

    Thanks very much!

Do a search, there are custom rims available for cheaper. You will need a rim with a 6 on 7.25 bolt pattern.

What that gimp is trying to say there is that our M715 bolt patterns are very, very obscure. Pretty much unique to our trucks.

But what does that $350 include?

Remove the existing tire from the M715 split rims.
Removing via Plasma Cutter, the bolt pattern from the existing split rims
Remove the bolt pattern from the donor wheels via the Plasma.
Weld donor wheel bolt patterns on the existing split rims.
    Check for balance.
Install existing tires on the new fab'd rims.
Speed blance the new rims and existing tires.

Seems reasonable to me IF you are sure the wheels will be balanced and true. Can't help you on the donors, however. I suspect, you'd need to use whatever would fit the original center.

Call Marsh Racing, you can't beat $89.00 apiece for 16" by 8" wheels.

I'm a bit confused with the price debate. The initial post mentions a quote of $350 "for the job", plus the cost of donor rims. That's $87.50 per rim if quoted at four pieces.

Depending on the cost of donor wheels, this sounds like a good price. However, it's better to not cut-up stock wheels if you can buy aftermarket for a similar price. I'm curious about the freight cost for shipping steel wheels, as a local source eliminates this expense ( I would anticipate $200 for freight).

In the meantime, I'm going to contact Marsh and see what they've got available in a chrome finish .

I took some MRT 15x10 16 bolt beadlocks that were on my CJ. Had a local shop cut the centers from them and installed new modular centers with correct bolt pattern. I had the centers installed with 3 to 3-1/2 backspacing. Yes, a 15 inch rim will will fit the massive drums. I also doubled up on the beadlock bolts so I think Im at 32 bolts. SOoooooo currently running 42" TSLs on 32 bolt beadlocks on a stock M715 axle
