Thread: 12V heater

    Default 12V heater

We have an M715 that has been changed to a 12V system with a 350 chevy engine. We are building it as a hunting rig and looking for a heater to mount in the cab. Are there any aftermarket heaters that can be added or salvaged heaters that would work? I believe the year is a '68 model.

Use a heater setup out of a Jeep truck or wagoneer, should be a bolt in.

Yep, the Full Size Jeep heaters from 1963 to 1991 bolt in. The early ones in the 60's may have all cables operating everything....like the stock mil setup...th later civvy ones uses vacuum canisters and very late ones may use electric actuators to do this.

My heater I think is out of an old mack truck. I guess this was done to utilize the 24 volt system though. If yours already has been converted to 12 then I would def go with a civvy jeep model just for simplicity.

Napa and a few others sell an aftermarket one that is pretty simple and has the fan built in too.

If you happen to look around on e-bay, do a search for Mojave heaters. Tons of stuff come up there. They are for the street rod crowd, but they are nice and compact and have different layouts and options.

You can snag an auxillary heater from the back area of a van or suburban in the junkyard. Mine bolted in under the glove box with a couple metal straps and will drive you out of the cab. Only downside is that there is only one setting--FULL blast.

A resistor and three postition switch could fix that.

I might have a spare out of a 79 cherokee for sale next week, depending on what works and doesn't in the parts truck I just picked up. . .. ..

Does it run off coolant or just 12V?

Most of the auxiliary heaters are a hot water type with a blower fan built into them.
