Dana 70 spindle measurements? Disc Brake Swap?
Post by elliott on Apr 29, 2006, 10:42pm

I had posted on the Helitool thread asking for measurements of the spindle/stub of the M715 Dana 70.
The pic below is of the Dana 70 used on the Gladiator DRW and the FC 170 DRW. If anyone has a M715 axle stripped down that can tell me if the measurements are similar (or different in any way) I'd appreciate it.
    TIA

If the measurements are the same then I expect the M715 style hub can be used meaning that Helitool's disc brake conversion will work for FC and Gladiator Dana 70s also.

Edit: Thanks to Mikel for measuring his M715 stub!
"Everything looks the same except two dimensions:
    - The diameter of the inner bearing diameter surface is 2.250" (yours is 2.22).
    - The diameter of the seal surface is 2.750" (Yours is 2.68)."
Note that the Gladiator D70 stub is pretty worn which may account for the bearing surface differences, they may actually have used different seals as I wouldn't expect wear at that area would be even across the seal area(?) It looks like the hub swap may work with just the addition of a different seal.
Here's the M715 D70 stub measurements for comparison:

I'll pass this on to Ray at Helitool.

Tell me if you think the hubs look like they will swap from the M715 to the Gladiator FC 170?
There may be a few guys that'd like to swap to disc brakes if this will work.

dodge drw hubs from the late 60,s to mid 70,s work on the rear of the m715.
