    Default Help please...rear axle removal....

I took the nuts off and now I don't know what comes off next/ or how .
Looking at the exploded view in the parts area didn't help my little brain figure it out. I do not have the lifting brackets. It all looks like one piece although I know it isn't.
    What am I missing?

After you remove the nuts, there are some conical washers that holds the axle flange on. They have slit in them, and as you tighten the nuts holding the flange on, they compress and "grab" the studs. I assume this is so that even if every single nut backed off of the axleflange while you were driving, the flange still wouldn't come out.

Anyways, take a big sledge and strike a few blows right in the middle of the flange, and then work your way around striking the outside edge of the flange. This usually loosens those conical washers, and they will either literally pop out at you or you might need to take a pick or flathead screwdriver and see if you can work them out a bit.

Yep, got me too - I spent 45 minutes trying to get a puller on that flange to work - then my mechanic buddy walks over, peeks at it, gets out a mini-sledge and whacks it twice - the cones fell out - he shook his head disgustedly and walked away.

OOOOOOHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Well, that make's me feel better, those are not on the exploded view. While I was waiting, I called my super smart mechanic friend (my 65 yr old dad) he came over and in about 5 sec. he figured it out and did the sledge trick.
    Thanks guys!!!!
I have one off and now it appears the nut is smaller that 2 1/2"..... I saw that was the size while trying to find out how to get the axle out, but dinner came so I am going back out to see if I can figure it out. I'll update the progress later.
