    Default nephew messed with ignitor

while I was a work, I asked my nephew to change plugs and wire's on my truck. He's very mechanical minded. long story short the ol truckster wont start! I've replaced the points, condenser, coil, cap, rotor and nothing. I guess my only question is- if he messed up on the wires, where is number one wire located on the ignitor outer cap? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If memory serves me correctly, #1 wire on the ignitor should be in about the 1 o'clock location of the ignitor. Now you said that the coil was replaced? What kind of coil? Not one of those chrome plated Chinese jobs was it?

What I didn't ask is what type of ignition system do you have, 24-volt military with the shielded wires or a civilian distributor.

I can check my truck later today and even take a picture for you. But that won't be until later today. Maybe someone else will have a picture before then.

You should put the motor at tdc on the compression stroke, then see where the rotor is pointing in the ignitor. That is where number 1 is on your unit. Then run your wires counter clockwise on the ignitor from that point in the firing order 1-6-3-5-2-4.

To put the motor at tdc on compression, take out the #1 spark plug and crank a little at a time or turn the motor with a socket on the crank bolt until the timing mark on the dampner is at 0 degrees. if you have the valve cover off, the vales should both be closed on the #1 cylinder. If so, you are at tdc. If you dont take the cover off, then you will need to havesomeone crank the motor while you hold your finger in the #1 spark plug hole. crank a little at a time until the pressure blows your finger from the hole. This will be close to TDC....line up the dampner mark, which should be close at that point, and you will be at tdc.
