It depends on what your looking to do with it. Do you want to return it to orignal or make it a trail truck or mud truck? Do you want to do a motor/axle swap? The missing top isn't a big thing, but finding a bed may be a little more difficult. How much are you paying and does it run, two big factors. I paid $1200 for my complete m715.

Look at the rocker panels, floor boards (especiallly back corners behind seat) and frame for rust-through. Check oil levels in everything, ....look for water of signs of rust (water sitting in gear cases), If you are planning to restore it, .. . a lot of the 24 volt stuff can be expensive to replace, . .look for generator, voltage regulator, flasher box. Look at the wiring, . .has it been butchered? Look for play in the steering, particularly at the bottom of the steering column in the slide joint there. Look for play in the king pins in the front axle. Look at the back of the backing plates for signs of oil or brake fluid leakage, . . .just some thoughts . .

Were dying for some pics. I've seen a few beds on ebay go for next to nothing. One thing you have going for you is you live in ca, which is close to oregon and washington state, I'm sure theres lots of old forestry m715's in those areas. If the the truck your getting for free has the front pto winch, you've got a jewel no matter what, my truck wasn't that lucky.

Sorry Godzilla, there are not lots of M trucks anywhere. Although if I were wanting to find something I would get to know someone in Oregon, he seems to be a Magnet to these things.
