Thread: Throttle Cable for SBC

  1. #1

    Default Throttle Cable for SBC

What have you all used for a throttle cable on a carbureted small block chevy? If you used a universal cable, how did you mount it to the back of the pedal? Have any of you replaced the throttle pedal? I still have the original cable, but I'm not sure I can get it to work with the carb. Thanks for your help.

I am running the stock 230 cable on my 396. My next choice would be the longer cable from 1973-1987 Chevy trucks.

When I added power brakes to my 715 I had to come up with a different way to the throttle body. I used a motorcycle throttle cable housing with a 90 degree end on it to clear the booster, then just made my cable.

You can buy all the various ends and then silver solder them onto the cable. I found that much easier than trying to order something that still had to be modified. Most of that stuff is motorcycle related, but works just fine in an automotive application as well.

I will try to get some pics later of it.

what i did was take the pedal out of a chevy truck and welded 3 bolts to my floor board with a little tweeking, and it works great, i also used the stock chevy cable with the existing hole, and it works way better than i thought. if you would like me to i can try and take pics.

The stock bracket sounds the most straight forward. I don't have it anymore, but I should be able to get it back. When you get a chance would one of you using this setup send a picture? I want to make sure I get the right part.

I'm getting closer to having the truck going again. This is one of the last things that needs to be figured out. I'm way too excited. It's been over a year since it was driven. Thanks!

Lokar will most likely have a throttle cable that can be made to work quite easily. Check them out. Probably a little spendy but very nice.
