Thread: Th400/np208

    Default Th400/np208

Anyone done this? Got access to a M-1009 CUCV Blazer with this combo. I know the 205 might be a bit stronger but the 208 has a better low range.

208's are still a fairly strong transfer case. I would not worry about it unless you decide to run big HP and big tires and start bouncing it off rocks on a regular basis. I say run it. Around my neck of the woods TH400's are going for some coin. So if you can get a good deal on it, grab it.

I think the 208 is just the modern 205. A lot less weight using a chain and aluminum case and almost as strong. The 208 / 400 is used in the M1008 and M1009 and civi blazers and suburban’s.

Anybody in need I have one from a M1009.

The NP205 is a gear driven part time transfer case. It can be operated in either two or four wheel drive. The overall length of the NP205 case is 12"-13" from the face of the case to the rear output yoke's center on fixed yoke models. The NP205 has a high range of 1.00:1 and a low range of 1.96:1

The NP208 is a chain driven part time transfer case. It can be operated in either two or four wheel drive. The overall length of the NP208 case is 12"-13" from the face of the case to the rear output yoke's center on fixed yoke models. When in Two Wheel Drive, the NP208 does not turn the front driveshaft. The NP208 has a high range of 1.00:1 and a low range of 2.61:1

The NP208 version out of the M trucks was a 32 spline.
The deal will be free-no money changing hands anyway-I'd be trading the
SM420, starter and odds and ends I have for the TH400 and NP208.
I'm going to be swapping in D60/14 combo so I thought now would be the time to get into the trans/case if I want to swap.

I would not hesitate to run a 208. They have a pretty good rep. over on IFSJA. They are pretty much THE t-case to swap into 80+ rigs, and a lot of members have abused them pretty badly.

The one in my 83 has never let me down, and always operates as it should. Very easy to shift it into/out of all positions as well. Unlike my Dana 20.
