    Default Re-wire truck

I was having a charging issue on my truck this weekend. The more I dug into it the more I got frustrated with the hack-job of wiring from previous owners. Tons of dead wires. Nasty splices. 3 feet of wire to go 4 inches. After about an hour I gave up and started tearing it out.

I now have about 50% of the wire torn out of the truck. Looks like I will be re-wiring. New fuse panel etc.

Just when I thought I had a driver.

Give me about 15 minutes and I can send you pics of what I got going on to show all of the zone on my harness project

If you wanna fly out, I will give you a room to stay in.

I am sure there will be many questions in the next couple of days.

While your at it you might as well wire up a new engine, that will be the next thing to go.

I was at the same point a few months back. I'm looking at aftermarket harnesses and since originality doesn't concern me, there are some nice aftermarket ones for pickup trucks available online for $125-$175, depending on how many cirucits you need. I'm already 12 volts, so the original type hanresses do not interest me at all.

I bought an 8 circuit one off of e-bay last winter and it was around $125 then. It was easy as pie, and a whole lot simpler than building my own. All the circuits were laid out and labeled. The only thing it didn't have was quite enough length to get out to the taillights, so I had to build a seperate harness for that. Otherwise, I have been very happy with it.

I put the fuse box in the glovebox so its out of sight and the weather, but very easy to access.

That is exactly what I am going to do. Pulled the glovebox out and going to make the back of it flat so I have a nice place to mount the fuse block. Also going to use a marine fuse block that has blade (ATC/ATO) type fuses.

Biggest pain of this whole thing is pulling the 40 year old tape off the old harness.
