Default Little Help with Axle Gears

I am a little bit confused on what exactly i need. maybe someone with some expierence in this can help me out.

i want to change the gears in my axles from the stock 5.86 to something more highway worthy. 4.10 or maybe 3.73. and i also want to install a detriot locker in the rear. and a positract? or limited slip? in the front axle. while i have them apart.

i have the stock Dana60 in the front, and the stock dana70 in the rear.

i understand from an earlier post. that to go below 4.56 i need to change the carrier?? not to sure what that is. and where i can find one. i have looked on google and have not really came up with a definite answer to what i need to buy.

also with some reading i see the detriot nospin locker needs a 2 piece carrier...
mainly i need to know where i can buy the right carrier for the lower gear of 4.10 in the rear dana70 that will also allow me to install the detriot locker.

not to knowledge able on this.

As far as I know the only gears available for the stock axles are the 4.56. There are some 4.88's floating around but very rare.

Call Randy's Ring and Pinion. They are familiar with our axles.

The carrier is the thing inside the axle that the ring gear bolts to...and the spider gears are in.
I have never seen a lower numerical ratio carrier...I would assume you would have to reuse the stock spider gears as the M715's 23 spline axles would dictate that.
I dont know an application to give you either...but I do know the ones with anti lock brakes are out as they have a different offset to the ring gear...and some of the units without anti lock have a different offset...
Maybe Randys could help there too.

With 4.56 gears, if you left stock tires on the truck, it would give the same rpm reduction as going to 44.5 inch tires would...thats a big drop...4.10, if you can find the stuf, would be as far as I would drop the ratio numerically...

The Detroit locker will fit in a stock carrier as it is 2 piece.

Buy a set of CUCV axles & put them in instead. Come with 4.56:1 gearing and a Detroit locker in the rear - open up the front for a lock-right & you are done. Well, you have to put disk brakes on the rear axle (nice upgrade) and you get stronger modern axles with the common 8 bolt wheel pattern.
Wouldn't go too much below 4.56:1 for the gearing - it is a truck. If you want the ultimate in highway mileage buy a micro car.
