If you take a 24 to 12 volt converter capable of handling 5 amps max and wire it in correctly, yes, that would be a do-able thing.
Hook the converter to the battery.
Gonna need an on/off switch for the ignition or a key switch.
Run the positive output from the converter to one side of the new switch then from the switch to the coils positive terminal.
Run the negative output of the converter to the points.
Run a wire, already there really, from the points to the coils negative terminal.
Now you have a 12 volt ignition.

Just get a converter that is rated for continous duty. It really sucks to have your ignition go out 40 miles from home on a 100 degree day. Just ask porkchop. We wired the coil directly to one battery and got ourselves home.
