My son and I are new to the M715 world. Should there be a secondary saftey catch for the hood, or is it just held down by the two spring loaded hooks on the outside?

To the best of my knowledge the two spring loaded catches on the sides of the truck are it.
M-715's as big as FSJ's come
Thanks Team............one thing about these old trucks is that you cannot walk across the street and look at another truck when you have a question.
You could get one off a jtruck if it bothers ya. Someone put a cable in the front of mine--I left it there.
I've seen some that look like they forgot to hook the latches.
Some people swap in a civvy set of latches in the front...its possible yours was modified with that...after the side ones are released, the hoos shoud raide up a bit, enough to see if the civvy type is there...

I'm sure glade I joined here. Just received my FIRST M715 yesterday. So far had to learn how to charge a two twelve volt system, And now how to get the under the hood. Been looking high and low for a latch Hope this is right and the hood is just stuck
Welcome aboard Sherman.
If your truck is stock it should be 24 volts. The two batteries are each 12 volts but they are wired in series for 24 volt operation.
My first trucks hood would get stuck occasionally. It would get hung up on the bolts that hold the brush guard in place. It only really happened when I had my brush guard removed when I put the bolts back in the holes so I wouldn't lose them.
My hood gets stuck occasionally. Pushing down in the center (right above the brush guard) and then pushing up from the bottom should free it. My dad had both releases (civilian and military) on one of his 715's. I plan on doing the same to mine when I install a new hood/fenders. Just think of it as an extra safety measure...even if someone unhooks the side latches the hood will still be secured
