Thread: Power Steering Recommendation

    Default Power Steering Recommendation

Hello everyone, Thank you in advance for your time and help.

I have 67 M715 with a small block Chevy. I want to make this my daily driver and want to do a power steering conversion. Any rcommendations or current applications that work or a provider of an aftermarket kit?

The easiest swap for power steering is a box from a J-truck. I used one from a '79 and it was a bolt-in and the pitman arm fit correctly. Then, use a standard Chevy power steering pump. You may have to change a fitting depending on the fittings on the back of the pump and the box, but it's basically a pretty easy bolt-in.

I know others have used other saginaw-type boxes, but I'm not sure which ones they used.

Go fishing at your local salvage yard to find old Jeep parts.

I'm running a used J-truck box with crossover steering and a high steer arm. I love it, no bumper steer and 1 finger turning the 11.000R16s

The only issue I have with mine from a 77 Wagoneer is, the turning radius is too large. I've been told it's because the pitman arm from the Waggy is too short but I haven't checked it out yet. The steering is really easy though. I love it.

I picked up a steering box from e-bay for $30, plus shipping. I just searched for a Wagoneer box. It was a bolt on affair and I even used the pitman arm on it too.

Same here, I used a J truck box, 3 bolts on the box 3/4" I believe and the shaft. SM Chevy pump on the motor and the local parts store had lines that worked. Very easy swap only 3 hours start to finish with 1 trip to the parts store. night and day difference in driveability.
