Thread: Driveshaft length with 14 bolt

Default Driveshaft length with 14 bolt

Well I had swapped in a 14 bolt some time ago but didnt have driveshafts hooked up. Got in to that this weekend--I've got a stock transfer case in the stock location

I swapped in the 1310 to 1350 u joint and installed the shaft---As those of you that have done this swap know--the shaft will go in to the front yoke a few inches but is too short overall---at least I can drive instead of push now.

My question is simple--how many inches did you add?? I put a tape on it but thought I'd get some feedback--How much did you add to yours and have you had any issues with it bottoming out our pulling out too far??

I am in the midst of the same thing now. I swapped in a 14B with an NP205 center output though. Also did a springover. Still looks like only about 1.5 to 2 inches needed.

Basically, all you need to do, is to jack up the truck and support the frame so that you get full droop. Do a measurement, then do the same at full compression. You just don't want the driveshaft slip joint to either extend too far that it pulls out, or compress so much it bottoms out and damages the transfer case.

Yeah I did that-lifted her with the tractor bucket (didnt seem to droop much lol) and pushed her down. Looked like a hair under 2 inches would do it. Just looking for input from others who might have real world runs with them. Make me feel better about my measurement I guess.

As you pointed out--dont want to wreck anything.

Get that sorted and move on to the brake debacle.

Yeah, not much droop on stock 715 springs.... I pulled out two leaves and it still isn't very flexible.

Just leave enough room for movement in the slip joint, and you'll be fine. It really isn't very complicated.
