I personally would only recommend the 205. The D300 is just to light of a case as is the D20. I have snapped D20's in half while they were on my '67 Wagoneer doing mild wheeling. And I have never been a fan of the chain driven cases.

What PC said. Plus staying with the divorce transfer case keeps everything pretty much as it is forward of the case. Otherwise, you'll have to swap out the trans, and make new driveshafts, along with shift linkage, etc.

The NP205 is worth the price and its a tough case. Plus its still supported for parts and will fit the same spot with only a bracket fab and a bit of linkage tweaking.

Since you're talking about an sm420 and some adapters and having to buy a 205 also, I assume you're planning to use an adapter to marry the tranny and T-case. I would recommend finding a married SM 465/205 combo. They are not too hard to find and will probably be less expensive. You also get a reverse light switch if that matters to you.

Several people here have married 465/205 combo's sitting around if you decide to go that way. I know Sermis does. Shipping would kill the deal however.

Trade. Get on your local jeeper or 4x4 boards and see which lunatic out there wants to trade you some of those pos, I mean ready to be re-built, qt cases for a 465/205 combo. Chevy put that in everything heavy under the sun for years.
But unless you are planning on swapping the drive train to something else or going with a drivers side drop (Ford like me) then go married and enjoy the hassel free driving. lol

People like the 300's and the 20's though - look around. Post an add on Craigslist. You cannot beat free!
