Commonly, these are swapped out for a divorced 205 so extra 200's are laying all over the country-cheap. That doesn't answer your question, but just letting you know, thery're out there.

NP205 has a great reputation but could someone explain why they are so much better? Don't know much at all about the 200...

The NP200 was designed in an era of flat heads motors with 3000 rpms being "high" then...it was designed with oiling methods and gear cuts for that environment.
The NP205 is the newer, updated NP200 case with improved oiling and better gear cuts for what we now call high rpm's....
Strength wise they are very similiar and size wise as well...though mounts did change.

The 200 was designed in the late 40's and used until the production run on our trucks ended. The 205 started about the time our trucks went into production and ended in the 80's.
200 horsepower and speeds of over 50 were very rare for trucks 60 years ago. Plus, no interstates were even being planned then. By the time the 205 came along, big block 4x4 trucks that were designed to run all day long on $.25/gallon fuel down the 70+ speed limit interstates were the norm.
The bearings in the 205 are huge compared to the 200. I also believe the metalurgy is better too. Look at what each was designed for. Plan how you want to use your truck and select which one fits better.

Oh...and the NP205 comes from the factory as a through drive unit...rear output directly behind the tcase input yoke where the NP200 is off to the side putting it behind the front output...thus making all that whine stock trucks have.

Thanks for the explanations. I figure my stocker will be happy with the 200. I don't need to go fast in it and I kinda like the whine.
