I'm back to work on the winding after a short break. Moving ahead slowly, learning things as I go. Just wanted to post something to keep the thread alive. More pics to come soon.

The days are getting shorter and the time I devote to this project has become slim but not forgotten. The stator is almost complete.
One more leg of the winding left. I will not do this again, it was fun at first but then became a total drag.
As a followup to the rectifier install, here is a pic of the guts side of it with new insulating silicone covering the ends of the diodes.
Looks alot like it did originally.

Are the little pieces of wood to keep the red form from collapsing? What is that made out of that your winding the wire around?

The core or the "red form" you see is made of about 20 laminations of metal sheet. This is typical for all motor/ alternators it helps with the magnetic fields generated at the rotor in this case. The wood shims are used to keep the wire in place while you wind, after all is wound a laquer is applied and that cements the whole thing together.
The stator core you see is in every 715 alt, you can see this section if you look closely at the alt you can see the laminations on the outside. Thats if it hasn't been painted ten times.
