Thread: Battery Cables and ground

    Default Battery Cables and ground

Ok so in an effort to have the most power available for this rig I would love to hear from those of you that have gone larger than stock on battery cables and/or have installed additional grounding straps. I have an old Ford Model A and going larger results in quicker starts in cold weather etc... Did anyone build thier own?

I ran welding cable from my alt to my batts. I did it to see what would happen, easier starts were the result.

Welding cable works good. I used 2.0 cable, one to the engine block and one to the frame for grounds on the 725and same size for the positive. Also put in a series 31 battery for the 12 volt system. Has cranked good even at 25 below zero.

I went to the local baattery shop here and they make cables any size...when they put he lugs on the end, they use a sleeve that outside remains as a plastic like thick cover but te inside melts to the cable and lug...thus is completely seals the wire and metal end from the environment...very nice.

Had them made in 2/0 size...they flow.

I used 2/0 on mine, both for battery cables and winch/accessory power to the rear of the truck. Far better than standard cables. Better power flow, and the winch doesn't get the cable hot.
