Did those of you with the civvy distributor use a ballast resistor or are you using full 12volts? I got the cap, rotor and points at NAPA but need to know about the voltage. Thanks in advance and if anyone needs the part

I have not used a ballast resistor with mine....although I probably should....the civvy vehicle it came out of had a ballast resistor, which I still have somewhere, so I would bet it was designed to be there....though I have had mine in there for several years, I have roughly 8000 miles or so on it....2nd cap and first points....only changed the cap because it was WET from deep water racing at FE99...changed it right there...so I havent really notoed any negative problems...but still it was designed for it.....
The Napa part numbers for the civvy ignition cap, rotor, points, condensor, and primary wire are in the parts list in the online manuals section linked at left.

Ballast resistor is matched to the coil. Points don't care what voltage they get. Either the coil is internally or externally resisted. Ultimately you want total resistance to add up to around 1.5 ohms (not certain on that number, it's off the top of my head).
A safe bet is when you buy a new coil, buy the resistor that is matched to it, unless it's internally resisted in which case you don't need one.

I'm just saying how the system should be set up. Without enough resistance in the system you'll probably see shorter coil and points life.
But yea, it'll work great and start easy without the resistor.

Civilian or military....the civvy stuff is listed in the M715 Parts list which is linked in the Online Manuals linked at left.
