Thread: Valve seals on the 230’tornado

Default Valve seals on the 230’tornado

Has anyone ever worked on doing valve seals on the 230 tornado motor
    I did a compression test
    #1 was 100 psi
    #2-5 was 130 psi
    #6 was 140 psi
I think that the compression is ok not the best on number one
I’m just worried she smokes a bit
Blue and black so improper fuel mixture to rich
    Or valve seals
Just trying to get some info on the valve seals
    Thanks

Maybe #1's rings are bad? That could explain the low compression and the smoking.

There are some folks on this site that are master mechanics, and I am not one of them. I haven't worked on a 230 either. Have I established myself as someone who knows what they are talking about? haha So disregard everything that follows...

The rings in that #1 cylinder probably need to be replaced. While you have that head off, you might as well check all the valve seats, lap those valves, and check the valve guides and guide oil seals.

I saw a set of rings for the 230 on eBay yesterday. Better snap 'em up! I also saw a full gasket set somewhere online in the last couple of days.

Of course, like remodeling an older house, once you get it there you just might find other problems... and that always costs more money.

    Hope not.

Complete gasket sets are available from Walck's 4WD, also.
