Thread: Rim options

    Default Rim options

I would like to say hello to everyone as I just became a member. I own a 1968 M715 that is now powered by a healthy SB chevy. Other than that it's mostly stock. I would like to know what people use for rims to mount tubeless tires and who makes a kit to upgrade to disc brakes?

    Welcome to the 'Zone.

A member here (Bob) makes and sells one piece wheels by using stock centers cut out from the original wheels. That retains the stock look. Marsh Racing will also do 1 piece wheels. IIRC, they have a flat center, which is fine, but doesn't "look" stock.

is the place to find disc brake conversions. Email Ray through the site and see if he has some at the moment or if he is gearing up to do another run. Pricey, but they DO work. I have the front disc kit installed.

BTW, show us pix of your truck before someone posts:

Thanks for the welcome and the info.
I drove my truck daily when I first bought it 10 years ago. I then parked it to finish other projects. I recently got it running and moving again. I will take some Pictures when I get home tonight and post them tomorrow. It still needs some TLC before it sees the road again.

For a lot less money than a disk brake conversion, you can get a pair of modern 1-ton axles that will solve every weakness inherent in the M715 axles (ultra-low gearing, drums, closed knuckles, smallish axleshafts, odd lug pattern that limits rim selection, difficult to get brake parts...).

I went with the stock axles, spent the money had the gears changed and power-locks installed, and I still have old axles, if I knew then what I know now I would have gone with a big brake dana 44, and corporate 14. My .02 Dan

I am a very capabile mechanic, so a gear change and lockers would be no problem for me. I personally like the 5.89's I plan on installing an OD trans.I also think the track width of the m715 is quite a bit wider than most other trucks out there. I also prefer the Dana 60/70 combo over the corporate GM stuff, but thats just my personal preferance. Thanks for your .02 Mike

Stockton makes a wheel they call "Power Wagon" and it has a similar look to the stockers. They also make other, less expensive, designs with the correct bolt patterns. I run a less expensive set.

I also run a V8, 5 speed and 38-39" tires with the stock geared axles and have no issues on the highway with the fast paced traffic.

I don't have knowledge of the disk brakes other than Ugly Truckling noted above. The 1pc. wheel sources are Bob Cowen (site member), Marsh, Stockton and another that slips my mind at the moment.
