Get the 80/100's which are more common and aim them right. They will then compare to todays modern low beams which are crisp.

    This is a good place.

Never buy the Hella Vision Plus replacements. They are a neutered version of the standard E beam and only mildly better than DOT bulbs. A total waste of money.

I will walk you through building a relayed low and high circuit. It's easy and very cheap. Thanks for the heads up.

Don't want to hijack here but I want some of these! Add on's.
These are able to be focused from long distance to flood with a twist. These are Aussie made and on all the truck trains over there.

Tim have you considered some AUX lighting up front? What about extra back up lights mounted sideways so they can swing around the side of the Jeep? Camp site light or change a tire.
What about chassis lights in case you have a night time repair? Under dash lights? Dome light?

Christmas is coming you know. It would fit right in.
I know this is a year-old thread but I need to address headlights in three vehicles: 81 Scrambler (has conversion bulbs but I think they are frying my wires); Big Cheese, my M715 that is at Randy's right now; and my daughter's M1009 that has stock setup. With potentially three setups needed "I will walk you through building a relayed low and high circuit. It's easy and very cheap." sounds great.

    How do I...?

On mine i have hella conversion lenses with bi xenon 55 watts HID .... I was having some issues with the 3 levers switch because with the trailer on and the flashers activated , the inside breaker was getting too much current and was triggering the safety. Now with the HID, i only draw .250 A to activats the relays.

I have done several of these in the past, from scratch, and that is by far the best set of instructions I have ever seen. Wish I had it then, rather than having to draw up my own.

I have (in my Jeep XJ) AUTO PALS you can get the set of 2 with the bulbs off ebay for around $40 and have a great result. I have not tested them side by side to the hella but they were a huge improvement from stock on my 97 XJ.

these are available in round as well

Cibie (with a little dingle over the e that I can't type) makes the best h4 housings... except to pay a bit more though.

As a warning, don't ever put HIDs in housings meant for halogen bulbs... may look fine to you, but it will blind other drivers with annoying glare. If you want HID, get a complete HID kit with proper housings.

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/p.../products.html usually has good prices on the cibie halogen headlamps, and he's nice and helpful too.

    Exactly!

I've seen so many try this and swear its great. From the driver's seat, it is. From the perspective of the approaching driver, its just plain bad.

What you get is more of a light scatter, than a focus. Similar to a flood light vs. a spotlight, which is in essence what a pair of focused sealed beams really are. Add to that, the light emitted is very high on the white end of the scale, which will leave you seeing spots after an encounter with them.
