Thread: Cummins Carnage

    Default Cummins Carnage

Thought some of you might get a kick out of these photos. A friend of mine that parts out dodges gave me this engine. He said it had a knock in it, sounded like an injector or valve. Well I took the head off and this is what I found. OUCH. I have never seen one this bad. The other five pistons and cylinders look great, no wear at all.

Well for those who are curious I took the head and piston to a friend of mine that is a cummins mechanic to see what happened, and if the engine is salvageable. He noticed that the injector for that cylinder was not sticking out as far as the other five. We pulled it an saw that it had two seals on it, and he thinks that that cylinder was sucking air causing it to run lean and heat up, melting the piston. Looking at the block, he said to put a new piston and rings in it, and it will be good as new. So I just got a good cummins engine for the price of an $80 piston and rings.
