Thread: E-brake rebuild

    Default E-brake rebuild

OK I was searching around and can't seem to find any threads on this. Getting the band relined looks to be the easy part. But what about replacing the springs? Will generic hardware store parts work, or is there a supplier for new kits? Any input will be helpful. Thanks

Are your springs bad enough to need replacing? Or are you just looking to do a super-thorough rebuild?

They are pretty well rusted and I'd like them not to break after they start getting used again. And since I'll be swapping the unit onto a 205(as soon as I get one) I thought it might be worth doing. I've also got to redo all the linkages, the PO wasn't nice when he "modded" them for the Ford T-98 that's now in the truck.

The springs are just used to keep the band open. Bring the rusted ones with you and you should be able to find a close replacement at a local hardware store.

Have a Briggs and Stratton 3-5 HP engine lying around? The valve springs work perfectly for that. They are stiff enough to hold the band open, but not too stiff to apply the brake.

You will be money, time and frustration way ahead to buy a new brake band instead of relining the one you have. They are the same as the bands on M37 trucks. Rapco has or at least had a bunch of them in the $25-$30 range.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

I think Ventage Power Wagons has the springs and "J" bolt.

If you don't mind my asking, where did you get the yoke to move the driveshaft to the center output?
