Thread: Fsj door weatherstripping

    Question Fsj door weatherstripping

Hey everyone I have read about using fsj weatherstripping for the door to cab seals. Now is that used only on the top frame or on the cab too?? In other words do you just use the fsj w/s for the seal of the glass to top frame and use the factory type of glue on w/s for the door to cab or do you use the fsj stuff on the cabs pinch weld and do away with the glue on??
    Thanks

I installed the FSJ around the windows (pulled it from a GW at the local pick-n-pull for $5) but plan to use it for both. They should be done seperate anyway so you can take the top off. Put a couple of small screws into the window frame to hold it on the top of the roll up window (I didn't want to glue it) but other than that it works great.

Will put it on the door frames after I have the bed and interior floor line-xed.

So you would cut the fsj weatherstriping and use that on the pinch weld of the cab next to the rocker correct?? Instead of using the weatherstripping that glues to the door?? You use it for the window frames and on the cab pinch weld???

I used the glue on weather stip from Memphis Equipment. It fit well and for only $15 I got more than enough to do both doors.

I don't think there is enough room for the regular style on the pinch welds when you shut the door. I recall I tried that first, then wound up buying the other type. The regular slide on weatherstip was too thick, particularly at the front of the door and kept it from closing properly on my truck.

On the upper frames and windshield, I did use regular weatherstipping from an XJ door, and used several pop rivets to keep it in place. It seals pretty well because it is fairly thick stuff..

The weather-strip will not work mounted on the cab. As mentioned above, there is not enough room for this thick w.s. and it will bind the doors, if you're even able to close them at all. However, it works great on the top frame.

Regarding the top frame installation, the FSJ weather-strip should have metal innards, so just take a pair of pliers and crimp it real good prior to mounting it on the top frame. One shouldn't need any additional anchors to hold it in place. I've set up my truck with one continuous piece that runs from bottom of windshield frame up and around and down to the top of cab/door. When I pull the cab frame, I just slip the windshield w.s. section out of the windshield. The frame will sit in the barn all season with the front w.s. hanging freely downward and it still does not come loose from the top frame engagement, and again that is without any additional glues or anchors.

If you've got a salvage yard nearby, you could take a visit and pull some off a J-truck, and give it a try. That's where I got all my w.s. and it was likely as good as new, since it generally doesn't see much sun light. Didn't cost anything either, but you may have to provide a little compensation if you don't know the folks at the yard.
