tail gate

i need a measurement off of the tail gate... whats the width on the pillers or what ever you want to call them??

im going to try and make one at school for a shop project.

I need a tailgate also, though about making one too, It doesnt look to complex.

Hey Foodstamp.........I just picked up a tailgate this morning.......got it in the back of my pickup......I'll go get you measurements.......

The pillar measures approx.......5 11/16" wide x 2 1/4" deep
The lip at the top measures 2 1/2" wide x by 2 1/2"

They are easy to make. I made mine 6 years ago. Having stock hinges and the hook assembly on the bed sides is important before you start though.

Other then VPW, there does not seem to be a source for 7/16 x 4-1/4" clevis pins as used on the tailgate. I am going to make a few so was wondering if anyone needed some. Not sure how many I can make and how fast! Will turn them on a lathe.
