    Default The AM715

I searched a few old posts but only found a few references to the AM715.

After an evening digging around on the net, found a few webpages relating to it as well, but had a question that I wondered if anyone here could answer?

Were there any AM715's here in the states? Seems they were destined for export at the time to places like Israel.

If so, does anyone have one?

when I was in the Air Force in 75, Tyndall had a ambulance verison , used for inflight emergencies, like this one but of course Air Force blue.

also had 7.50 x 16 mud and snow tires.

The later ones used by the military I don't think were actually AM715's. I think that they were probably just on J20 chassis. When I was in the Air Force in 79, we had a few J20 pickups set up as brush trucks for the fire dept.

It seems all the AM715 ever made were export but there seems to be no avial info on them. The ambulances you see were purchased thru AMC not AM General. Supposedly there is a kinda rough one at white owl in N.C.

Was the AM chassis different from the J series trucks? It seems they were close to the same, but the info is scant.

The ones we had were standard FSJ series cab, bed, with 8-lug standard dana 60 front and 70 rear axle, .. marked J-20 on the side. . .
