    Default Hard start

The truck starts easy when cold. Get it up to temp shut it off for a 1/2 hour and try to start. Starts really hard ,a lot of cranking.

DO you have to floor it to make it start? If so, then lower your float and adjust the idle mixture.

If throttle placement makes no difference, look at timing, weak coil, weak points, wiring to distributor, old worn out plug wires and worn out spark plugs.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

If somebody butchered the wiring and bypassed the ballast resister it could be sending 12 volts to the coil, causing it to heat up and fail. . .

All the above mentioned stuff is good points. I'd also pull a couple of plugs to se what they look like in terms of color. If they are really sooty then you may have a float level issue, or rich-running problem.

How is the engine cranking speed? When its hot, does the starter seem to be weak or slow? That can make it a bit difficult to get going again.

Also, check the basics, timing, plug and points gap, air filter, be sure the tank is venting properly, etc.....
