DS drop front axle?
Post by alosix on Nov 21, 2006, 8:24am Finally aquired the drivetrain for the M725. Wanted diesel, but didn't want to pay for it. Have a complete 5.7 Hemi/trans/t-case on the way now from a 2005 1500 pickup. This means DS drop front end. I'm 1/2 tempted to put the 2nd gen dodge 5 link up front and use a D60/D70 combo out of one of those trucks. Looking for any other suggestions. Would stay leaves if I can get the axle at a decent price. Thanks, Jason |

Post by tacomainoh on Nov 21, 2006, 11:06am Uhmmmmm get a Dodge axle??? Ford??? Or see if an older Dodge 205 will fit on your trans. That's what I did w/the Cummins I'm putting in (again) my 87 Chevy. |

Re: DS drop front axle?
Post by davea on Nov 21, 2006, 11:10am Late 80's/early 90's Ford F350's used a drivers drop D-60 and if you run spring over, the factory ford spring pads are in exactly the right place for the M trucks. only drawback is that the factory ford steering arms put the pass. side tie rod pretty close to the bottom of the spring pack. Has clearance in rest mode, but might rub during flex. Plus it has locking hubs and inner/outer wheel bearings vs. the Dodge's hubless, mono bearing setup. |

Re: DS drop front axle?
Post by wi715 on Nov 21, 2006, 11:13am You could use Dana 60 out of a 86-91 F-350. I'm using 1 out of '88. mounts used were Ford on the driver's side, Chevy on pass. side. Got 2 for sale near Wi Dells WI. John |

Was mostly looking for years of Dodge/Ford that might be useful. Kinda like the idea of running the late model 241 that's coming with it. Does the steering of the fords work ok if sprung under? Not looking to make this one any taller. Its going to most do parts hauling and light tow duty. Thanks, Jason |

I think top mount steering arms would work if you ran it spring under. You might have to blue-flame the stock arms off. |
