    Shiny new bumper!
    Post by binfordm715 on Aug 17, 2006, 5:32pm

The guys at work came through for me!!! It sure looks good, 'cept for the galvanizing! It's 10 gauge steel with the shackle cut-outs done. When I get it home, I'll see how it fits.

BTW, the guys at work said they could probably get a few more made every now and then (as time permits on the machine). If anyone's interested, they said they could do it for $75-$100 a piece, plus shipping.

If I had something like that, it would be the straightest part on my truck! Nice. How were the cutouts made? I heard (on this board, IIRC) that VPW cutouts were rought cut and required filing. Your cutouts look smooth.

    BTW, PAINT that thing! LOL!

Here's the problem: That picture was taken a couple hours ago in Milford, Indiana. That's where the bumper is. I, on the other hand, am at Chicago O'Hare at the moment. I looked into checking it as luggage, but it's a bit too long and too heavy for me to be dealing with along with my suitcase and computer bag. Besides, there's a truck leaving for my Kalifornia distributor's place tomorrow, so I'm going to have it put on that truck, then I'll pick it up the next time I drive to Kali. That may be mid-October. So it won't be seeing my truck for a while yet!

The galvanizing is kind of growing on me, guys.... Maybe I can dip the whole truck. What do y'all think?

The cutouts are quite smooth. They used a punch (*slightly* larger than stock) top and bottom, then cut between them.

The plan is to acid etch the thing with muriatic acid, wash it off, then primer and paint. Should work okay, eh?
