How important is the gasket between the trans and bell? Mine is half gone.Should a person make a new one,as I'm sure you won't find an already made one or just leave it out? Doesn't seem like my M38 has one.
Thanks

The gasket between trans and bellhousing is part of the trans. gasket set (military). I got one from antelop valley truck(Ca.), dont know if they have any left, it doesnt include the eng. to bellhousing seals though.

This gasket prevents the secondary shaft from leaking oil. If you can not get a NOS, make one from oil sealing paper like Elring red sealing paper, 0.25 mm thick. This material is available in Germany on 25 meter rolls for relatively little money in the better asorted auto parts shops.
