I'm resealing my NP200 transfer case for the 2nd time in a year due to leaks. I used NOS seals from AB linn. The surfaces on the yokes were not grooved to bad. Can anyone tell me were I'm going wrong? Should I use NOS again or are there better seals out there?

Bump_r posted that you can get seals from parts stores but that they are not as good as the NOS ones from AB Linn...see the M715 Parts list in the Online manuals linked on the left side if you want more info...sounds Like AB is A+...as usual.

Marc,

I prefer new manufacture rubber versus NOS in all cases. But you said the surfaces weren't grooved that bad - are they grooved at all? Minor roughness will eat a seal pretty fast.

I replaced a pinion seal and the surface wasn't grooved that bad but it began leaking very quickly. The easy fix was a redi-sleeve, a good parts store will know what you're talking about. If you think you need one, just order according to the seal number you're using. They aren't exactly cheap at 18ish bucks but they work.

The new manufactured ones are thinner metal and nowhere near the quality in the rubber of the NOS ones...that why they are preferred.
The redi sleeve part numbers are listed in the parts file linked on the left in the online manuals section.
If the mem pics were worring at the moment, you could see the big difference between the NOS and newer seals...it is dramatic.

i called the company listed on my seal, and he said they still make the seal. current rubber, with the extra felt seal too. he did say its not stocked by alot of dealers... the felt keeps mud off the rubber.

Can I hijack this thread in the most militant way? Has anybody ever replaced the shift rail seals with the Xfer in the rig? I'm to lazy to go out side and see if it can be done....

I think I'll go with the NOS seal and the readi sleeves and be done with this leaking.

Al,

I have the case completely disassembled and I still can't get the rail seals out. Maybe you can puncture the edge of it and pry it out but I bet it'll be hella difficult without mangling something else.
