A friend has a jeep 360 engine. Will it bolt directly to the t-95 trans. or would it need an adapter kit? Just wondering for future engine power. I'm not trading my 230 untill absolutely necesary.

You could use the 360, pretty good engines. Use the 360 bellhousing, and put the input shaft from a t-18 onto your t-98. You would also need the motor mounts for the frame. Or just use the t-18 that is bolted to the 360 if you can get that as well. I'd go that route over a chevy engine any day.

Will the input shaft from the T98 go into the T18 and work with the 230 and its bellhousing? What is the length of a 230's bellhousing (is it the same as a 360's) ?

Why would you want to do that? Input from t-98 into t-18 with the 230. Both those trans are about the same. I'll bet the 360 has a longer bellhousing because it is a shorter engine than the straight six.

Why you ask?...I am thinking about putting the 360 that is in my J4000 into my M715, and putting the 230 into the J-truck. The J-truck is a good flat bed work truck I use regularly and does not need the 360's power, and I want the M715 to have lots of power.

I also have a 2wd SM420 trans, but I do not have a GM engine. Has anyone used a SM420 in their M715?

The 230 uses a shorter input shaft than the 360.

What exactly would you swap into my M715 if you were in my shoes:
360 and mainshaft (keep T-98)
360 T-18 & D20 (remove np200)
360 T-18 & D20 (leave np200 and have a divorced doubler)
I also have two 2wd SM420s

The T-18 I have is not a T-18A. It has 4.00:1 first not the desirable 6.32:1
...and some day I would like to put a short granny trans behind my Buick 225 V6 in my '59CJ5 and I may or may not keep the spicer 18. I am thinking that if a T-98 is left over, I might be able to buy the correct mainshaft for the buick V6 (which is attached to a T-90 now).

What is involved in attaching a M715 T-98 to a Spicer 18 small hole and large hole?

Use the sm420 for your 225 as it is a direct bolt up to that engine, you will need an adapter however to mate the transmission to your dana 18 transfer case, I bought the Novak as it allowed more driveshaft clearance and they are great to deal with. I would also keep the t-98 in my M truck add the 360 and the t-18 input shaft with carrier bearing and new inside roller bearings to mate the two. Look for a 205, or 202 divorced transfer case to install instead of your 200 if you don't want to keep that. I'm doing or have done similiar stuff to my M truck and current Jeeps. Just my opinion. Good Luck
