    Default Transmission leak.

I have a severe leak at the rear housing on the transmission. Had the rear seal replaced while the shop was rebuilding the transfer case. The transmission mount is right in the way of this housing that has the leak. Do I need to support the transmission before I remove the rear mount? Also the mount looks a little complicated, how many bolts hold this mount?
    Thanks for any help.

You should support it before you remove that rear mount.

Here is an image of the mount and bolts and all:

the leak may also be from the studs/bolts #7 in the above detail. Use Permatex when reassembling.

    Yes, good point.

On mine those are bolts...and one of them was leaking. I found it was loose and tightened it only to find that it fell out about a year later. I examined the thread and found them to be wider apart than a new bolt as the high parts were worn thinner...presumably from being loose and being knocked around in the hole. Bought new bolts and put them in with permatex...that was 10 years ago and no problems since.

If memory serves correctly, the lower one is in the fluid when the trans is properly filled and the upper one isnt...but maybe both are...its been a decade...

Thanks for the replies fellows. It was the left hand bolt (no stud) that was leaking. I will use permatex when I put it back together. Would you use the permatex that hardens or not. Any suggestions on where I can find a transmission insulator, transmission oil has softened mine to it is almost coming a part.
    Thanks again.
