Default luckypabst : Parking brake question

    Parking brake question
Post by luckypabst on Jul 11, 2006, 3:40pm

Mainly directed at Cowan here with his brake relining but chime in if you can:

Will a properly adjusted non-oily brake band stall the truck? I'm having issues with Frapguy's oil soaked brake band over here. To get it to work nice, it needs to be adjusted tight enough that it builds some heat when driving.

Anyone have a link to the proper adjustment method?

I've never had the brake on mine working right, never really cared, so I'm not sure how powerful the parking brake should be.

    Thanks
    Chris

Mine would drive but would soon stop the truck due to the heat swelling it...the 1 or 2 times I drove off without releasing the brake that is...

    Heres the manual link:

    http://www.m715zone.com/manuals/34/chapter16.html

That page has both the service brakes and the parking brake....its in there...

if you drive with the brake engauged it will cristalize the linning, and----- cook the seal out of the output shaft if run long enough. it get super hot quick. been there done that.

Yea I figured that much, but I wanna know if the brake is strong enough to stall the engine from a standstill.

I agree with Bob Chris. A properly adjusted brake should definitely stall the truck in second even with throttle applied. You might be able to make it move in granny with lots of throttle, but then it is a race to whether the clutch or brake goes first. I am referring to the 230.

    Cool thanks guys.

Engine is a baseline GM crate 350 - not much if any torque over the 230. I told him about the relined brake bands but I'm not sure he's willing to put any money into his E-brake.
