    m715 fuel tank problems
    Post by 42willys on Jun 13, 2006, 6:56pm

Hey Guys just bought a m715 and it has not run since 1979!!
Got it to turn over but there is no fuel getting to the pump.
did the normal process of elimination and got to the fuel tank itself.
the long and the short of it is that the line inside the tank seems to be pluged! tried to blow air down the tube but nothing happens. all back pressure
is there any type of stopper in the line to prevent any thing from running back down the fuel line in to the tank?
or is it just plugged. any idea on who to unplug it??
tried pressurized air and water. tried a piece of wire and a coat hanger..nothing....whats next?? just cut it open and see whats up??
    thanks for the help

Usually, the sock on the end of the tube gets plugged and you just blow it off w/ compressed air & fish it out. Sounds like something a little more serious with yours, though. You might think about knocking the pickup tube out, and having a new one made up. Or try another tank...

Oh yeah, welcome to the zone!

HI Had the same problem with my M725. By using different types of solvents like PB blaster and wire to slowly push through the hole. Let it soak and keep at it,the tanks are hard to come by so its worth the extra work. You will have to drop the tank down to make this happen. Between the solvents and air blow gun it should work.
P.S. The fuel sending unit is most likely bad to so you might want to check that out while the tank is down.

Consider this an opportunity to refurbish the tank as you will have to at some point anyway. The insides get nasty and if you plan a 12v conversion, you'll need a new sender anyway. To test fire the motor right now, you can install a temporary fuel source of your choice. You will probably have a leaky fuel pump diaphrahm after 30 years of sitting, so you are gonna have a little bit of work to get it running right. Lots of help here though, welcome to the madness.
