Default Weather stripping

Got some proper shaped rubber weather stripping about 6 months ago on ebay. Just pulled it out and while sizing it up for install I noticed a few hundred holes in the door around the area where the stripping goes.
My qwerstion is what have y'all used to secure the strip with? Should I use glue or some small screws with big washers? I think the original had some kind of embedded spring like clips that went into the holes but not sure.
Any advice is good advice at this point.
