    Re packed the rear wheel bearings and installed new seals and flange gaskets. As with the NOS water pump gasket I had to enlarge the holes with a punch as the gaskets seem to have shrunk over time. I tried installing my GI issue pick on the rear bed and found it was about 1" too long to fit in by the bed rail so I had to cut and re profile the end.

    I have two or three picks. Same problem with mine. I will eventually have to do the same thing. Glad that you posted this because I thought that I was doing something wrong.

    Progress has been slow lately but managed to get the front brakes assembled, Memphis has great brake shoes. Waiting for a hub seal to finish RH side. Also repaired some cracks in the steering wheel. Next I need to roll it back out and finish blasting the front of the frame.

    Thought I had the correct front hub gaskets, nope too small, had to make some.

    I remember on a convoy from Ft. Sill, OK to Blanding, UT, our field firing site for the Pershing Missile, one of the guys from the motor pool had to make an axle flange gasket. He took the gasket material and used a ball peen hammer and "Carefully" tapped around the edges (Of course, they were very sharp) and voila, a gasket. He even made the holes the same way with the ball part of the hammer.

    Us former and current military guys can "Gitter Done".

    Nice field repair, I cheated and used a compass and hollow punch.

    My dad, who was a motorcycle shop owner & mechanic, had a very small ball pien hammer that I was off limits to me; it was a gasket hammer, used for the very purpose you describe, Don. He showed me the technique, which has proved useful quite a few times since.

    I wish I knew where that hammer went.

    I know people have had good luck with spent shell casings to punch holes in gaskets...match the bolt size to a caliber and go from there...
    A .22 is near quarter inch, .308 is close to 5/16ths, .38 or .357 or 9mm are near 3/8ths...etc...good to half inch or so...

    Sandblasted and primed the drums I got from Glenn today, finally a break in the weather and time to work on them. Also a shot of the cab blasting progress. Good news this week, received the tracking number for my new cab top from webee webbing, cant wait to release that canvas smell from the box.
