    Default Maiden voyage

I took the truck out for the first time this evening, to the local cruise. She ran perfect. So far so good! It's probably my imagination, but I felt that the truck ran smoother with the new Pertronic's ignition installed. Maybe my mind is just playing tricks on me. Not sure. Maybe I'm trying to convince myself I did the right thing. At any rate I'm pleased at the outcome.

How many Zone members have had past problems with their coils?

I did for sure. I put in a used one from Eastern Surplus And Equipment (near Philadelphia) and never a problem now. And my truck is in Florida (read HOT)!

I'm guessing about 4 years ago. They actually didn't advertise or offer them for sale to my knowledge. Since I was living in Baltimore, I drove up to buy the gallons of OD paint. I asked about them and I think the guy took it from their repair stock, measured the resistance and said that it was OK. It cost me $60. I also got some data plate rivets from them too.

Do you think that finding and purchasing a original equipment M715 coil is still better than the new Chinese coils that we are having to buy?
What exactly would be the problem with the newer coils? Cheap materials? Not enough windings inside? Poor insulation?

Very, very happy for you. I hope you NEVER have this problem again. However... if you do, remember the steps to see if it is ignition, fuel or electrical.

Thanks Don. If my problem was indeed the coil, I'm pretty sure it'll happen again at some point. Because it started quickly now, and ran so well last night, it appears I can rule out the other things we all talked about over the last couple of weeks. I don't want to jinx myself, but it looks like the original problem was the coil and then the second problem was the alleged new coil that was sent to me. I did not like the fact that the first coil had the date of 8-15-2008 written on the side of the casing. Even though the seller said it had never been used, it was already 9 years old when I received it. This may have been an issue. We'll see what the next few weeks bring.
