    oops

I missed that you are in AK!

In that case, I definitely recommend a late model swap, either GM or your choice, but something more recent.
GM stuff is fairly easy to come by and there is lots of aftermarket support. I agree with you wanting to be able to get parts in the middle of nowhere, which is why I am also a big fan of GM 350's: they came in everything, and everything interchanges (mostly.

    anyway.

I second the 203/205 Doubler, as well as the Northwest Fab recommendation. If memory serves there's is a clockable, weldable design....

also if you get a set of 4.56 CUCV axles, you can use the rear Detroit for the 5.87's and you'll only be out the cost of ONE locker.

TH400's can be made burly pretty cheap. Just get a decent cooler.

    Clockable: Yes...
    Weldable: Not so much
They use a series of mounting holes on two sides of a sleeve for an insane amount of adjustment.

When I bought my 725 from a member in VA, it had the 8 lug conversion started. My memory is kinda fuzzy, but I think his username was PaulC, and he did a writeup on the old board about it.

If you want, I can dig up his email address since I haven't seen him here yet.
