    Bent rear bumper
Post by dxeflyr on Nov 20, 2006, 5:27pm

Both sides of my rear bumper are bent in, looks like they both took a hit at one point or another. I've seen this on a lot of 715's, and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to fix it. Here's a pic from today:

I was thinking about tying a strap around the end of the bumper, the other end to a stout tree, and going for a short drive. Any input? Thanks!

Its not that hard to take those extension pieces off...2 bolts I think....then work them with a hammer...seems it would be easy to srew them up trying the strap route as they arent that significant of a metal piece...

Yep, upon further examination I see that they aren't integral parts of the rear frame. Will take them off and either buy new ones or fab some up, depending on the cost/complexity. Thanks Jon & Rich.

One of mine was bent so I bought another and then heated up the frame and used a BFH to straighten it out. Can't even tell.

Yeah, mine were mangled also. A little work with a hammer and a piece of railroad rail I use for an anvil got them looking as good as new. Same thing worked for the front bumper.

I agree for the 6th input. Mine were mangled about like yours. Take them apart and go at them with a hammer.
Just remember that the rear heavier piece will work on either side even though the welded nut on the inside sure is a big help when putting it all back together. Try to keep them if you can. The front thin part is side specific.

Well, as seen in the pic above, the ends were all boogered up, so I explored the problem-solving abilities of an angle grinder w/a cutting wheel. They work pretty efficiently, too. From this:
