Thread: Gear Ratios

    Default Gear Ratios

I have converted the engine & gearbox on my M715 to Mitsubishi.
As I understand the old gear ratio i.e Tornado Engine Original Gearbox was:

    1st 6.398:1
    2nd 3.092:1
    3rd 1.686:1
    4th 1.00:1

My new engine gearbox ratio are:
    1st 5.494:1
    2nd 2.836:1
    3rd 1.592:1
    4th 1.000:1
    5th 0.746:1

I'm still using the original transfer box i.e NP200
Anybody know how to work out the speeds with standard tyres or even the formula for calculating the speeds.
    Thanks.

The formula I use for calculating speed is:

    ______(Engine RPM * (3.14 * Tire Diameter / 12)______
(Transmission ratio * Transfercase ratio * axle ratio * 88)
    68 M-715
    67 M-725

Many thanks for the info, working it out right now.

Are you talking about recalibrating the speedo? If so, it drives from the transfercase and would read the same with either tranny.

You can always download this spreadsheet, change the gear ratios to whatever you need and poof!
