    Ok, need some details 6bt + 725.
Post by alosix on Jul 26, 2006, 12:17pm

I've been searching this board and the rest of the net. I know there are a few 4bt conversions and at least 1 6bt conversion. So, here's what I need to know, pardon the newbness of the questions.

1.) What sort of cross member/motor mount setup was used?

2.) How much firewall and where to cut? I'm guessing that this is so that you can get the engine back and up enough to clear the oil pan.

3.) Anyone have any contact info for 'Utah Jeeper' so I can shoot him a few questions.

4.) Guess this is going to make the front sit lower. Anyone have any solutions to that so far? We're probably linking and bagging it later, so a temp fix is fine. Almost tempted to run a set of load helper airsprings if its an issue.

links to any swap writeups would be appreciated.

i've got more questions, just couldn't think of them yet.

    Thanks again,
    Jason

Most seem to feel a body lift is the only way to get a 6bt in...tall engine.

IIRC our front springs have a 600lb per inch deflection rate, in other words, pretty darned stiff. May sag an inch or less if I had to guess.

That's pretty much all I can offer, Utah Jeeper would be the best guy to contact, hopefully someone will chime in with his e-mail.

Ok, let me get this straight (been reading old posts and searching the net)

Most seem to be able to do the 4bt without any issues on axle or body clearance.

The 6bt is the same hieght as the 4bt , just longer correct?

This should just mean a little tunnel work in the cab right? I only really plan on seating 2 people. If it ends up looking like a H1 inside that's cool with me.

Utah Jeeper has fallen off the face of the planet!!! lol

The 6bt is just longer. The Cummins manual I have says it weighs 900-something lbs, but I think that's just for the long block?. Sure felt heavier on the hoist.

If you need any dimensions or anything, lemme know. Mine is sitting in the driveway.

oh yeah, I'd recommend modding the oil pan. The huge sump is the real issue.

Is the sump and issue for axle contact, or just a problem if it goes offroad? This thing won't likely see more than a nasty camp ground road. Trails are just too tight in this area to bring it along. They can be tight for the TJ.

Guessing that would be a pull off, cut, and weld type of thing? Steel or aluminum?
