Thread: Painting New Zinc Fasteners

    Default Painting New Zinc Fasteners

My truck body parts are now all over the floor. Everything that can come off is off. All the bolts are shot and many broke as they were rusted solid. So, I'm replacing every nut and bolt after painting the parts. The new ones are zinc plated so how will they take paint? The paint will be stripped and we will use epoxy primer on everything so not sure if I need to do anything else?

Really can't find un-plated hardware, unless you buy in box quantities from the national suppliers. Don't need hundreds!

I've had pretty good luck painting most hardware. Its probably cadmium plated, but even so, just be sure it's clean. Regular primer and paint should adhere fine.

They do make a zinc primer for this. Don't know who makes it, but the last time I just picked some up, it was in a spray can. Believe it was listed on can as a galvanized primer. If I can remember that far back, it came from Menards.
